A foreigner who comes to Belarus can choose one of three options for the regime of their residence in our country, namely: temporarily stay, temporarily reside or permanently reside in the Republic of Belarus.
The law " On the legal status of foreign citizens and stateless persons in the Republic of Belarus " contains a list of grounds for obtaining a temporary residence permit in Belarus.
For example, a foreigner who is studying in Belarus has the right to obtain a temporary residence permit for the duration of their education, but not more than one year.
A temporary residence permit can also be obtained by a foreigner, if he or she is a highly qualified employee – for a period of no more than two years.
If a foreigner owns a building in Belarus, he or she can also obtain a temporary residence permit.
Article 48 of the Law "On the legal status of foreign citizens and stateless persons in the Republic of Belarus" specifies all the grounds for obtaining a temporary residence permit. At the same time, international agreements concluded with the Republic of Belarus may provide other grounds for obtaining a temporary residence permit.
However, under certain circumstances, a foreigner may be refused a temporary residence permit, and this decision can be appealed.
Moreover, in some cases, the temporary residence permit may be revoked. This decision can also be challenged.
